We actually checked the weather the night before we went for a walk at the RSPB’s Surlingham Church Marsh, near Norwich, and we knew we had to get out reasonably early to beat the rain.
It was cold but lovely and bright and we were hopeful of seeing some wildlife – until the clay pigeon shooting on the opposite bank started. Nothing seemed keen to come out with all the bangs going on.
Imagine our excitement when Mark spotted a toad in the middle of the path. I quickly snapped off a shot, thinking it would hop off as Freya excitedly thundered towards it but there it sat…because it was a rubber toy.
Ah well, it was still a lovely morning (and we were sitting drinking hot chocolate just as the rain started).

At least you got out before the rain fell! I wouldn’t have known that was a toy if you hadn’t mentioned it. My shot has to be the first pic,. That’s a wonderful perspective and love the grass in the foreground in front of the boat. #MySundayPhoto

Beautiful photos of the boats. I had to laugh at the rubber toad. I never would have realised from the photo!

Surlingham Marsh is one of my favourite walks anywhere in the world. When we were children the river banks were wild and there were little beaches where we would swim with masses of teeny tiny fishes (it wasn’t RSPB then).

I love the photo of Freya with the midday light behind her. I can’t believe that’s a fake road… obviously some trickster around 😁

Hi Tara, that is funny, I was thinking it was probably in hibernation mode… But it was rubber! Your photos are lovely. I feeling a tad jealous of the people in the boat and I’m not overly keen on boats! How lovely must it be just to bob on a boat in such beautiful surroundings?
