At about 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday Freya said: “I wish we could go to the beach.”
We hadn’t done much the previous two days and so, even though it wasn’t entirely beach weather (brrrrrr), we piled into the car and drove to Sea Palling.
Having been there in the summer when it’s heaving with people, it was rather nice to have the beach almost to ourselves. In fact, it seemed like there were more people in the water than on the sand at one point.
I’ve never seen kitesurfing before but found it quite mesmerising. Freya wasn’t quite so keen on the wind but was still happy building sandcastles and playing in the pools (where we found razor shells for the first time). Mark was just…cold (for some reason he didn’t bring a big coat).
“I know, let’s warm-up with an ice-cream,” Freya suggested.
Mark and I opted for freshly cooked warm sugar doughnuts instead.
Wishing you all a lovely week.

I can feel the cold! Even so it looks like a great time to visit the beach. I can see the appeal. brave kite surfer though! #MySundayPhoto

Yes, it was really windy too but he looked like he was in control. I don’t think I’d want to try it myself though.

I love visiting the beach in all weathers, although we don’t live very close so often it has to be a planned trip. We saw kite surfing for the first time this week in Wales and I found it really interesting too #MySundayPhoto

We’re very lucky to live so close to so many lovely beaches (I think the nearest is about 40 mins away so not too far).

Hi Tara, it’s making me cold just looking at Freya wrapped up against the cold whilst clutching her spade. An ice cream to warm up? It must have been bitterly cold…. A freshly made warm doughnut sounds a far more appealing treat!

She had about 14 layers on too. I didn’t actually think it was too bad but then I had my proper winter coat on…unlike some people. Hehe.

I love how she’s got her hood done up so tightly, very sensible!
What is it with men (and teenage boys) and not taking coats out with them?!

I know! I couldn’t believe it. It’s not like going to the beach (or the weather) was a surprise.

That first shot looks a still from a sci if movie. I would have opted for the doughnuts 🍩 #MySundayPhoto

I thought that too. Or a film with Quentin Tarantino directing 🙂

Love her little face in that first pic! 😀 I do actually like beaches on cold blustery days though, part of being English I guess! 😀 #sundayphoto

Me too, although I am longing for summer now (when I will complain it’s too hot. Another part of being British, I think 🙂 ).

Bundled up by the sea! It sounds like you had a lovely spontaneous adventure… I would’ve gone with the donuts over ice cream too! #MySundayPhoto

I think there is something about bundling up and going off to the beach on a cold day. I love the composition of that first photo.

I love the beach anytime of year, you just have to be prepared for it. We’ve gone in the fall before and made lovely memories with less crowds. Awesome pictures, Tara, as always. ❤

Me too. We are so lucky that we live close enough to go whenever we want (or just about). I am looking forward to going when it’s warmer though and having a paddle without wellies on 🙂 Hope you’ve had a lovely weekend.

Thanks, Emma. I can’t get enough of the beach. Are you all back to normal after your Norfolk adventure?

Yes, back at work and school last week. Feels like it was ages ago we were away

Love that Freya thought to warm up with as ice cream, such a beautiful photo. I always find that a deserted beach is the best kind of beach!

I love her coat! And why not have an ice-cream, even though it was freezing. Ice-creams and the beach go hand in hand. I must admit I’d have joined you and Mark with your donuts! #mysundayphoto

Freya looks lovely and warm in her coat. I love the way children want to have ice-cream when it’s cold – my girls are the same! 🙂
