It’s been a chilly start to the year in Norwich but Jack Frost created some pretty photo ops – and I got to play with my new 50mm lens.
I already had a 50mm but this one is so quiet and smooth. I actually “oohed” the first time I used it. I’m really surprised by how different it is to the old one (although it had got to the point where that one would only take images it really liked, which wasn’t that often). I’m still getting the hang of it.
I’m lucky that Freya likes being outside whatever the weather (and I make sure she’s well wrapped up). This was the first time she had held a piece of ice.
I’m not sure these poor birds on the pond were as taken with it. There were some rather unfortunate landings.
How’s the weather been where you are?
Beautiful photos! I’m just lazy during those last days of vacation!

Beautiful photos! It’s been frosty here too and I’m glad it’s now warmed up a bit. Very envious of your new lens. My camera has got very temperamental in its old age, to the point where I prefer using my phone as it’s more reliable 😦

It’s so frustrating, isn’t it? I wasn’t sure whether it was the body or the lens but clearly it was the lens as it’s working well now. The phone is so much easier.

Now these are the images I have been looking to get out the house to take but I’ve just been swamped since the start of the year! Fantastic shots and your new lens is clearly serving you well. Happy new year! #MySundayPhoto.

Wow the ice is so thick! we’ve only had a few frosts in Spain, overnight it’s cold but nothing like Norwich! Love the skating birds!

Freya couldn’t work out the ice. I think she thought it was glass. I think we might have some colder weather coming this way too.

Love those skating birds. It as been pretty cold here too, but will my boys wear a coat to school?

Oh no! Hehe. They don’t seem to feel the cold, do they?

Some have worked and some haven’t but I’ve had a lot of fun learning what it can and can’t do.

Wow you have some amazing pictures of the frost and ice, it’s been cold and icy down in London, but nothing like that. I still don’t have any good frosty images.

Hi Tara, excellent photos! I would like my next lens to be either a 50mm or 35mm prime lens and looking at your photos the 50mm looks good. I feel like I am in the gardens.

I’m amazed by how much they have come on. The movement is so smooth but the colour seems a lot richer (not much tinkering in the editor needed).

Thanks, Louise. I was hoping for some snow photos this week but, unlike the rest of the country, we don’t have any yet!
