C25k, Exercise, Getting old, Running, This Girl Can

C25K, week 5, day 3 – the ‘believe in the power of the C25K’ run.

Can I get a woop woop?
Can I get a woop woop?

Work out: 5 min warm up, 20 min run, 5 min cool down.

Best bit: I like walking along the corridor to the gym and having a quick peek in the classrooms which lead off it. People were watercolour painting in one room, playing bowls in another and enjoying aerobics in the last one.

Hardest part: In all honesty, aside from being riddled with nerves, the hardest part was trying to get my sports bra off over my head afterwards. I felt like I needed to dislocate a shoulder to get myself out of it. I’m not sure what the problem was but it was like some strange wrestling match. I’m only pleased no one else was there to see it.

Motivational app quote: It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.

Well, the nerves almost got the better of me. Isn’t that daft? I just didn’t see how it would be possible to run 20 minutes non-stop when the most I had previously done was 9ish. Of course, I should have had more faith in the power of the C25K.

I kept at a nice slow steady pace and just plodded through it. I think it helped that I was making up a life story for the woman running next to me who may or may not have been a former super model. She certainly looked that part with a baseball cap pulled low on her ageless face, one of those fancy fishtail plaits over one shoulder and all Lycra-ed up. She ran for 25 mins and, unlike me, didn’t even break into a sweat. It’s a slight mystery why she would be in a community gym but, in my story, she thought it would be the best place to remain incognito.

The other thing that kept me entertained (simple things, remember) was that as I was running the mouth on the beast logo of the t-shirt I was wearing (it was on sale) looked like it was opening and closing in the reflection in the mirror so I imagined it was growling at me not to stop or it would bite my hand off (hey, whatever works, right?).

So, on to week 6 and despite the fact that we are back to running segments again I am not even going to question the logic of it because I believe in the power of the C25K.

#ThisGirlCan if there are random people to distract her.
