Workout: 5 min warm up, 8 min run, 5 min walk, 8 min run, 5 min cool down.
Weather: Even though I’m now inside I was freezing and kept my running jacket on. Maybe I would have been warmer outside?
App motivation: “It is exercise alone that supports the spirits, and keeps in the mind in vigor.” Hmmm. I have no idea what this means. In fact, I spent my warm up trying to work out if it was just because I was tired that it didn’t make sense or if it actually didn’t make sense. Any help?
Well my Christmas diet
of entirely chocolate and crisps paid off and I was able to complete week 5, day 2 without issue, which was a HUGE surprise. I expected and was resigned to having to repeat the dreaded week 4 again, having not run since well before Christmas. However, my wise mum made the point that, while I am not exercising in the traditional sense, I don’t exactly lead a sedentary life with a energetic toddler to keep up with (and especially as we live in a top floor flat so there is a lot of weight lifting up two flights of stairs of child and shopping done most days). I suppose this must help, although she doesn’t know about all the packets of biscuits I eat to balance things out. I am pleased that regular gym sessions can now resume.
So, day 2 of week 5 was actually really good. It was like something just clicked (thankfully not a bone) and my body has remembered that it once liked to run. I just need my head to catch up now because although I wasn’t even breathing heavily towards the end of the final 8 minutes – keep in mind I am not running world record pace here – naughty Joan was telling me to stop and walk.
While cooling down on the bike, I made the mistake of glancing at the next session. If I was younger and able to get away with using text speak I would have exclaimed OMFG! 20 minutes WITHOUT ANY WALKING. What?! Seriously, C25K people, has someone actually planned this out? I’m beginning to wonder.
Needless to say, I am not looking forward to the next session with quite the same enthusiasm as the last few.
