Something for the weekend

Something for the weekend…

The following is a little eclectic round up of some of the things that I’ve discovered this week. There have been so many great articles that it’s been difficult to pick.

What I’ve been reading:

Love Is Not Enough is a post by Mark Manson, author, blogger and entrepreneur. It was linked on Facebook by a writer I have enjoyed for many years, Leah from Single Infertile Female. Here is a sample:

In our culture, many of us idealize love. We see it as some lofty cure-all for all of life’s problems. Our movies and our stories and our history all celebrate it as life’s ultimate goal, the final solution for all of our pain and struggle. And because we idealize love, we overestimate it. As a result, our relationships pay a price.

Less Advice More Washing Up is a great post from The (mal)Contented Mother which I think everyone having a baby should forward to their family and friends. I like the advice in number three:

It’s is vitally important to hear that ‘it gets better’ and ‘having a baby was the best thing I’ve ever done’ and all that crap. You do need that. But. There comes a point when you just need someone else to sit next to you and say “yeah, mate, it’s shit when sometimes, isn’t it?”

Yaya Toure, Loss and Treating Players Like Robots – This link is a bit out of my comfort zone as I would never describe myself as a football fan, although I have been to a few matches (mainly with my husband), but one of my Facebook friends linked this story about a grieving footballer who is apparently under-performing and the need for compassion, which I found interesting.

my name is BABY  by Mary Hamiliton, a former work colleague now doing amazing things with The Guardian, took my breath away.

my name is BABY and you lean out of your car and spit at my feet it lands in a puddle in front of me and i am thirteen and in a suburban neighborhood on the way home from school and i gag and run with my backpack banging like the echo of your words against my back like you are chasing me all the way home

Stop and Smell the Flowers by Raising Dystonia is actually a post from October but I only recently discovered her blog so I was reading back through the archives. While all of her posts are beautifully written, there was something about this one that stuck with me.

You Should Be 1 is a touching post by Doubtful Mum which manages to convey both heartbreak and hope.

One year ago today, on what should have been your birth date, we found out that your little brother was conceived.

And to end…

An AMAZING cover of Let It Go by Christina Bianco who performs it as many famous people including a brilliant Julie Andrews.

If you can’t play the video there is a link to it here. Wouldn’t want you to miss it 🙂

Have a great weekend.
